Update On Edgar Wright’s The Running Man Remake: It was announced in April 2024 that Wright will be helming a reimagining of Stephen King’s The Running Man. Michael Bacall penned the screenplay, and Glen Powell is scheduled to feature in the film.
Powell has officially confirmed to IndieWire that he will start shooting the upcoming fall version of The Running Man.
What did Glen Powell say about The Running Man remake?
Powell responded, “It was so fun for me because I searched ‘Edgar Wright’ in my email the other day, writing ‘Edgar.'” Powell was asked how he became involved with the film. It’s been a lot of fun to back and forth on script stuff. Edgar has created an absurdly elaborate world on this. It’s excellent. In addition, we’re both huge fans of the Stephen King novel, so it’s going to be a fantastic character. I’m really passionate about it. However, when I looked through my email, I found Edgar Wright. I had sent my agency a wish list of filmmakers I would have liked to work with when I got to Los Angeles in 2008, and Edgar Wright was by far the top choice. I love Edgar Wright so much. Therefore, it’s just really awesome that I get to work with him right now.
Glen Powell Joins Edgar Wright for ‘The Running Man’ Remake
“I made a bit of an 11th-hour plea to [Wright] on the job,” he continued. I just wanted to let him know that no matter what, no one who has ever worked with me would ever be able to outwork me on anything. However, sometimes it’s just a good reminder for a filmmaker to know that, “Hey, when we get in the trenches, I’m going to serve it up. I’m going to deliver.”
And because Edgar has become a friend over the past few years, it’s been really enjoyable for us to finally get in the trenches together. In addition to taking this job seriously, I’m also a fan, and you don’t want to disappoint your heroes. The Running Man, written by Stephen King (first published under the pen name Richard Bachman), was released in 1982. Paul Michael Glaser directed the feature film adaptation, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and debuted in 1987. Paramount Pictures has not yet disclosed a release date for the Running Man remake.
